GUIDED VISIT OF OUR EXHIBITS AND COLLECTIONS

Park of Military History in Pivka is a new and developing museum and tourist center. Various exhibits and historical collections offer visitors a unique view of Slovenian and world military history. The museum’s collections, which cover history with special emphasis on the Slovenian War of Independence and the dissolution of Yugoslavia, are modern, interactive, and appropriate for visitors of all ages.

We accept requests for guided tours for different types of visitors as schools and tourist groups, you can view the price list on this link, or contact us via e-mail [email protected], also linked below.

The Park of Military History hosts one of the most extensive collections of tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery in this part of Europe, covering periods from World War 2 to the Slovenian War of Independence in 1991.

Our tank and artillery collections are enriched with five iconic airplanes: the American Thunderjet and Sabre, the Romanian attack aircraft IAR-93 Vultur, the Yugoslav SOKO 522, and the legendary Soviet Mig-21.

Some of the museum’s largest exhibits are located on a plateau between buildings of old barracks from the 1930s. They include the German war locomotive BR-52, the Slovenian Police boat P-111, and the military transport helicopter Mi-8.

A special section of the museum is dedicated to submariners in the Yugoslav Navy, situated around one of the most attractive exhibits: the sabotage submarine P-913 Zeta. It represents one of the greatest technological achievements from its period, and it offers visitors a unique experience of seeing its interior on guided tours and discovering the secret underwater world of submariners who served on it.

Organized guided tours are available throughout the entire year. We provide our guide for each booked tour, who will accompany you through our collections, which lasts for about 2 hours, but we can adapt each tour according to your wishes and your available time frame. If the visit also includes viewing the submarine’s interior, the tour takes longer, about 20-30 minutes per 10 people. Organised groups above 15 members get a 20% discount on regular ticket prices. It is obligatory to reserve a guided tour at least five days before your visit.

GUIDED TOUR OF FORTIFICATIONS OF ALPINE WALL

Visitors of the Park of Military History are welcome to participate in guided tours of the Alpine Wall’s underground tunnels, bunkers, and fortifications. They are connected via an educational trail that connects the old barracks of Pivka, where our museum is currently situated, ex-military training grounds on hill Kota 110 (613 m), and hill Primož, where in the early to late 30s, Italian Army built an imposing fortress, with around 500 m of underground corridors connecting different artillery emplacements and observation posts. This artillery fort was a headquarters for other pillboxes and bunkers around Pivka. Along this educational trail, you can find five informational panels about natural, cultural, and historical facts about Pivka Basin. If you decide to book our guide, they will take you into forts, underground bunkers, and corridors, along with a detailed explanation of its history and the surrounding region’s history.

We require a reservation at least five days in advance to visit the fort’s interior, which takes around an hour and a half.
